Early in my life, I was bowled over by the work of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. With their use of repetitive images and crazy colours, these pop art cowboys spoke to me in ways that went beyond language. I grew up wanting to be an artistic cowboy, just like my heroes, and over the years I’ve pushed myself to break through the established frontiers of colour, time, light, and space.

My art photography is inspired by teak furniture, art deco, old movies, travel, antiques, pop culture, my family, and collections of all sizes and genres. Collections are central to my work. Lately I’ve been obsessed with groupings of everyday items from our recent past: neon signs and old buses. Armed with little else but my camera and a theme, I hunt down these collections as only an artist on a mission can do. 

Once captured on my camera, I pass the images through the filters of my 21st Century technological tools and suddenly—almost magically—these artifacts are renewed. No matter the collection, the raw photograph is the canvas upon which I unleash my distinctive artistry like a lasso. 

I studied art and design in Toronto and the American South, have worked as a graphic designer in Canada and the United States, and have lived and travelled all over the world. These experiences equipped me with big collections of memories and photographs that shape my work to this day. I mesh textures from one collection with colours from another; my mash-ups have been called unique, sleek, and striking, and I look forward to expanding my collections and sharing them with the public.

欧州米国の伝統と文化とも言われるモータースポーツ、そして最新テクノロジーの結晶ともいえるレーシングカーの世界を、日本古来の画材である 「墨」 と「和紙」を用いて、墨画の技法を取入れた独特なタッチでモータースポーツの生の醍醐味を表現しようと試みています。また、魅力的な人物の顔に魅かれ、人 物画や似顔絵も好んで描いています。

歴史関係にも興味があり、歴史をテーマにした書籍、文庫などの装丁やカット用のイラストを描いています。

東京造形大学デザイン科卒業。ビジュアル・デザイン専攻。
編集プロダクション、グラフィックデザイン・オフィスに勤務した後、イラストレーターとして活動開始。雑誌、書籍のカバーやカット、パンフレット、ポス ター、フライヤー、パッケージなどのイラスト。
近年は鈴鹿サーキットでのF1日本GPをはじめ、全国各地・海外で『墨のF1・垂井ひろしイラスト展』展開中。 
94年〜墨画家 鈴木缶羊に師事。雅号 「雪嶺」。 日本出版美術家連盟会員。
